The Broad Peak Expedition (8,051m) 2026 offers one of the most thrilling climbing experiences in the Karakoram Range of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, situated near the Pakistan–China border. Broad Peak, also known locally as Falchan Kangri by the Balti people, stands proudly as the 12th highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8,051 meters.
The name “Broad Peak” was first given by British explorer Martin Conway in 1892, inspired by its wide summit ridge that stretches across several kilometers. The massif includes five summits: Broad Peak Main (8,051m), Rocky Summit (8,028m), Broad Peak Central (8,028m), Broad Peak North (7,940m), and Kharut Kangri (6,942m)..
The first attempt to climb Broad Peak was made in 1954 by Dr. Karl Herrligkoffer, but the team was forced to retreat due to severe weather conditions. Later, in 1957, an Austrian expedition team consisting of Fritz Wintersteller, Marcus Schmuck, Kurt Diemberger, and Hermann Buhl made history by reaching the summit without supplemental oxygen or base camp assistance — a remarkable achievement in mountaineering history
In 2013, Broad Peak was successfully climbed in winter for the first time by Maciej Berbeka, Adam Bielecki, Tomasz Kowalski, and Artur Małek. Sadly, two climbers — Maciej Berbeka and Tomasz Kowalski — lost their lives during descent due to extreme weather, marking both triumph and tragedy in Broad Peak’s mountaineering legacy.
The ideal season to climb Broad Peak is during summer (July to August) — when the weather is relatively stable and warm compared to the harsh winters. Most successful ascents are achieved in these months, providing better visibility, safer conditions, and a more rewarding expedition experience..
