Pastore Peak (6,209 meters / 20,364 feet) is one of the most alluring and accessible climbing peaks in the Karakoram Range, located near Concordia in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Nestled close to the mighty Baltoro Glacier, this elegant snow pyramid lies opposite Broad Peak and Gasherbrum IV, offering breathtaking views of the world’s greatest mountain amphitheater — home to K2, Masherbrum, Gasherbrum I & II, and Chogolisa.
Pastore Peak is an ideal choice for beginner and intermediate climbers aiming to gain experience on a six-thousander in the Karakoram. Its stunning scenery, approachable route, and panoramic surroundings make it one of the most rewarding climbing experiences in northern Pakistan.
Pastore Peak was first climbed by an Austrian expedition in 1990 via its south face, which remains the most commonly used route today. Since then, it has become increasingly popular among mountaineers who wish to experience high-altitude climbing without the extreme technical challenges of the higher Karakoram giants.
The name “Pastore” originates from an Italian word meaning “Shepherd,” reflecting the calm and graceful nature of the mountain amidst the rugged wilderness of Baltistan
The Pastore Peak Expedition 2025 offers an excellent opportunity to test your endurance and mountaineering skills while surrounded by some of the most iconic peaks on Earth. The climb generally takes place via the South Face route, beginning from Concordia and proceeding through snow slopes, ice sections, and crevassed glaciers.
The best season to climb Pastore Peak is during the summer months (June to August). These months provide the most favorable weather conditions with relatively stable temperatures and lower avalanche risks. The skies remain clear, offering awe-inspiring views of the surrounding eight-thousanders.
