Laila Peak, one of the most striking and photogenic mountains in the world, is situated in the Hushe Valley near the Gondogoro Glacier of the Karakoram Range in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Rising proudly at an elevation of 6,096 meters (20,000 feet), this graceful peak is renowned for its stunning spear-like shape and steep northwest face that ascends dramatically at an angle of nearly 45–55 degrees, making it a dream destination for passionate mountaineers and photographers alike.
The name “Laila” beautifully symbolizes its elegant and slender form — often referred to as the “Queen of Mountains” by local Balti people due to its mesmerizing beauty and charm. The peak’s remarkable symmetry and the glittering snow face reflect the breathtaking artistry of nature found only in the Karakoram region.
The first successful ascent of Laila Peak was made by a British expedition led by Simon Yates in 1987 via the west face. Since then, the mountain has gained global attention for its aesthetic perfection and technical climbing routes. However, despite its moderate height compared to other peaks in the region, Laila Peak presents serious technical challenges, including icy slopes, unpredictable weather, and the need for advanced alpine climbing skills.
Over the years, many international climbers have attempted to conquer this beautiful mountain, with a few successful summits achieved from various routes. Due to its steepness and exposure, it demands precision, stamina, and mountaineering expertise
Laila Peak stands as a shining gem of the Karakoram, overlooking a panoramic landscape that includes Masherbrum (K1), Gasherbrum IV, Broad Peak, and the mighty K2. Its location near the famous Gondogoro La Pass also allows climbers to experience the spectacular views of Baltoro Glacier and the surrounding snow-clad peaks..
The most favorable season to climb Laila Peak is during June to August, when weather conditions are most stable, and visibility is clear. The warmer summer months provide a safer and more enjoyable climbing experience with relatively predictable weather patterns. Winter climbs, while rare, are far more dangerous due to extreme cold and frequent snowstorms.
