Discover the beauty and thrill of the Khosar Gang Expedition 2025/2026, one of Gilgit-Baltistan’s most accessible and rewarding climbing adventures. Rising proudly to an elevation of approximately 6,400 meters (21,000 ft), Khosar Gang Peak dominates the skyline of the Shigar Valley near Skardu, in the heart of the Karakoram Range, Pakistan.
Also known locally as the “Golden Peak of Shigar,” Khosar Gang offers a mesmerizing blend of snow-capped ridges, glittering glaciers, and panoramic views of some of the world’s highest mountains. Its moderate altitude and breathtaking scenery make it an excellent choice for aspiring climbers, trekking enthusiasts, and experienced mountaineers seeking a semi-technical 6,000-meter summit.
Khosar Gang lies at the entrance of the Braldo Valley, not far from the route that leads toward the Baltoro Glacier and legendary peaks like K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrums. The mountain’s name, derived from the Balti language, translates to “Snowy Mountain,” perfectly describing its dazzling white slopes that glow golden under the sunrise and sunset light.
mountain presents two primary climbing routes — one from the Shigar Valley side and another from Askole side, both offering spectacular views and an exhilarating climbing experience.
While Khosar Gang is not as historically documented as the eight-thousanders of the Karakoram, it has become increasingly popular among international expedition teams over the last two decades. Its first recorded ascent was made by local climbers in collaboration with a Japanese team in the early 2000s, and since then, it has been a favorite peak for mountaineering training, acclimatization climbs, and guided adventure expeditions.
Because of its altitude and location, Khosar Gang serves as a perfect introduction for those preparing for higher climbs like Spantik, Broad Peak, or Gasherbrum II.
The best season to climb Khosar Gang is summer (June to August) when the weather remains relatively stable, and snow conditions are favorable. During these months, climbers enjoy clear skies, longer daylight hours, and manageable temperatures. Spring (May) and early autumn (September) can also be suitable for experienced climbers seeking quieter routes.
